Approximately 22 million people live in mobile/manufactured homes in the U.S. and new mobile homes are 10% of the housing starts nowadays, according to the Manufactured Housing Institute. 

   The most recent data shows a total of 8,500,432 million mobile homes, based on the 2017 American Community Survey by the U.S. Census Bureau. That’s 6.2% of our total housing stock. Older census data shows that there were 8,779,228 in 2000, which was 7.6% of total housing, 4,401,056 in 1980 (8.3%), and 766,565 in 1960 (1.3%).
