Can over-tightening mobile home tie-down straps cause the floor to buckle?
Thursday, June 14, 2018
While it is possible that over-tightening the straps could cause a floor to crown or buckle, it is not the most likely reason. Manufacturers specify the amount of tension that should be applied to the straps in their installation manuals, licensed professional installers know to follow the manufacturer’s guidelines, and perimeter piers resist any downward flexing of the floor at the outside walls. Lack of perimeter piers or not enough of them is the most common cause of a crowned floor. Older homes are more susceptible because perimeter piers were often not installed at all.
