How deep should a mobile/manufactured home anchor rod be set?
Thursday, June 14, 2018
The anchor rod must be installed so that the head is flush with the ground in order to get the full pull-out resistance rating of the rod. Here’s how it is stated in the installation manual of Tie Down Engineering, one of the Florida-approved manufacturers of tie down systems.
Florida also requires a stabilization plate at each anchor that has a diagonal strap load. The rod should be pulled into position as the strap is tensioned, as shown in the Tie Down Engineering’s diagram above. What it should not look like is shown below.
And for a listing of typical foundation and tie-down requirements and defects, see our blog post What are the most common defects in mobile/manufactured home foundation piers? and What are the tie-down requirements for a mobile home?
