What is the building code definition of a manufactured home?
Friday, June 29, 2018
The Florida Building Code (FBC) provides the following definition of a manufactured home, with the last sentence stating that “a mobile home shall be considered a manufactured home.”
Although the FBC defines what constitutes a manufactured home in Florida, the construction standards for manufactured homes has been under the jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) since June 15th, 1976. It is informally called the HUD-Code and is our only truly nationwide building code.
HUD’s definition of a manufactured home is much simpler, and you can see it at our blog post “What is the HUD definition of a manufactured home?”
