Can I put a GFCI receptacle at the middle or end of a circuit?

You can place a GFCI receptacle anywhere along the middle of the circuit, but it will only protect other receptacles downstream—not any non-GFCI receptacles between it and the panel. And a GFCI receptacle outlet at the last outlet in a circuit will only provide GFCI protection for itself and no other receptacles.
