How do I determine the age of a Century pool or spa pump motor from the serial number?
Thursday, January 7, 2021
The first five numbers of the serial number of most Hayward Century pump motors manufactured since 2006 indicate the date of manufacture, with the first three numbers being the day of the year, and the fourth and fifth numbers are the year. So the serial number shown above means the motor was produced on the 12th day of 2019. And the one below was manufactured of the 8th day of 2016.
VGreen variable speed motor serial numbers will begin with the letter “S”. So “S215170000012” would translate to the 215th day of 2017.
There are also two older serial number systems. The first is a “Plant-Month-Year” code sequence. So “7C98” means it was manufactured at plant number 7, on March (A = January, B = February, etc.), 1998.
And the second is a “Year-Month” 3-digit code sequence, where the two letters from the list below indicate year of manufacture, and the number following them indicates month (1 = January, 2 = February, etc.). So BM6 would be June, 1994.
BA = 1983, BB = 1984, BC = 1985, BD = 1986, BE = 1987, BF = 1988, BG = 1989, BH = 1990, BJ = 1991, BK = 1992, BL = 1993, BM = 1994, BN = 1995, BP = 1996, BR = 1997, BS = 1998, BT = 1999, BU = 2000, BW = 2001, BX = 2002, BY = 2003, BZ = 2004, CA = 2005, CB = 2006, CC = 2007, CD = 2008, CE = 2009, CF = 2010
