Does a Florida Wind Mitigation report evaluate roof condition?
Sunday, November 28, 2021
Most of a Florida Wind Mitigation Inspection (OIR-B1-1802) is done in the home’s attic, and the inspector does not evaluate roof condition.
May Trigger Request for Other Inspections
But the report does require the inspector to verify both the age of a house and the date of the most recent roof permit. A shingle roof that is around 20 years or older is often not acceptable. And, if an older roof is noted in the report, it may trigger a demand for roof replacement to get or renew homeowners insurance. Also, a house that is around 30 years old or more may cause the insurer to request a four-point inspection—which does include examination of the roof.
