How do I determine the age of an Intertek ETL heat pump or air conditioner from the serial number?
Saturday, March 5, 2022
Although the Intertek logo appears prominently on the data sticker of many Japanese, Korean, and Chinese HVAC units, it is not a manufacturer. Intertek is a testing lab, similar to Underwriters Laboratories (UL), and the ETL stands for Electrical Testing Laboratories. Their logo indicates the unit has received the required safety approval and listing by an NRTL (Nationally Recognized Testing Lab). Not all manufacturers put a logo medallion on the cabinet of their products or show their brand name prominently on the data sticker. You may have to look closely for the manufacturer name in small type, usually at the bottom of the sticker.
